We have been enjoying a very fun visit from my dear old friend Katie and her mom, Pam. They arrived early yesterday morning and while they took a little nap, the kids and I spent the entire morning outside because overnight it went from super-muggy-unbearable-summer weather to beautiful-amazing-I-love-Northern-Virginia springtime weather. I weeded and enjoyed the lack of bugs buzzing around me, while the kids rode their bikes up and down the sidewalk and occasionally knocked each other over and fought over every possible topic amid many tears... it was lovely.
Then we spent the afternoon with Pam and Katie in Georgetown, eating lunch, walking around, and checking out the river. After a brief driving tour of most of southern DC we went home and Pam and Katie rested again while the kids played with the Play-Doh set Pam and Katie had brought (a HUGE hit). Matt got home, we put the kids to bed, and the adults chatted the rest of the night.
This morning we went to Arlington National Cemetery and saw all the basics there. Both days I forgot my camera unfortunately. I think its battery is dead actually. Anyway the weather was once again amazingly perfect, and around lunchtime we dropped Pam and Katie off in the middle of the Mall so they could do some sightseeing on their own. The kids needed a nap/quiet time after skipping it yesterday and I am getting to that point in my pregnancy (almost 39 weeks--!) where too many hours in a row of walking or standing or carrying crying 2-year-olds does me in. Now I am just waiting for everyone to wake up and/or get home. Hannah is also coming over to spend the night, which the kids and I are quite excited about. Maybe the girls will all go do something fun tonight. That is, if I come up with something before then and if everyone isn't too tired.
We LOVE having friends and family visit. Tomorrow we have a few options, maybe Eastern Market, maybe the Tidal Basin/Jefferson Memorial/FDR memorial. Maybe all of it if we are efficient. Then Pam and Katie are meeting up with their nephew/cousin who will be in town from New York. As always this visit will be a little too brief but I am so so glad that we are able to host anyone who wants to come. And I will say yet again--to those of you who might want to, please do come! Our door is always open and we are willing to accommodate the types of visitors who just want to hang out and those who want to see everything. (we get both. :)
On the one hand I can't believe we have lived here for 5 years already. On the other hand it feels like we've been here forever. I love this place.
I might just take you up on that offer! But get that baby out first :)
ReplyDeleteGlad Pam and Katie got the good weather treatment!!
ReplyDeleteHi Katie and Pam!! Hope you guys are having an awesome time!
ReplyDeleteThank you again for the wonderful time. We arrived home safely and actually got in 30 minutes early. Katie and I were talking about how much fun it would be to come back so we could catch the sights we didn't quite have time for this go around. Thanks again and loved spending time with you and your family.
ReplyDeleteIt was so great. Thank you so much. We had a lot of fun visiting and getting to see your house. The accommodations were wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOh, the end of pregnancy is tiring!
ReplyDeleteHang in there!
It probably doesn't make it easy when you are not inducing, just waiting for the baby to come. Most people don't understand doing that now, they seemed amazed at the waiting game.(This from my own conversations with people who are amazed that I went over due with some of my babies.)
