Country feelin's puttin' me on top of the world on this happy day.

I used to make fun of country music and listened to it only ironically, with vague ideas that I could write country lyrics someday and laugh all the way to the bank. Then I heard "Just to See You Smile" by Tim McGraw sometime in the '90s and was hooked. Still one of my favorite songs... can't deny my love for Tim McGraw. All through high school I listened to country radio and bought country CDs. My first concert was the Dixie Chicks with Katie and Mandy for my birthday...awww. Not long after the '90s ended I stopped listening to country music... it probably coincided with when I met Matt, since he can't stand most of it.

But lately all of a sudden I have country radio stations playing in the car pretty much every day and I am loving it. Even the terrible songs--and there are plenty of those. Good times. Maybe it's a pregnancy craving.

  1. How could you not like Tim McGraw? Just to See You Smile is one of my all time favorites.

  2. I love country - my mom always listened to it - and I hated it then. I think you have to come to country on your own somehow - and then it clicks!

And I still love the Dixie Chicks!

  4. I heard "Something Like That" on the radio today. I love that one too! I still regret not going to see Tim & Faith in Salt Lake several years ago. Would have had to go by myself but I think it would have been worth it.

Hannah, so glad you got my title reference. Closing line, "Ahhhh love it."

  5. I grew up on Country Music. If you live in Kearney, MO you hear country music and not a lot of anything else. Hence, I am sorely lacking in musical knowledge. I still love country music, and I love old country music. Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Alabama...I didn't know you liked country I would have gone to that concert with you.
I agree, most of the lyrics can be pretty corny. But I've heard more than my share of country songs quoted over the pulpit... ie... "Love Grows Best in Little Houses", "We gain a lot of ground if we both give a little, nothing is too hard if we meet in the middle."

  7. I totally want to see that! Was it any good?

On a related note, I watched bits and pieces of Crazy Heart on an airplane a year or two ago; I couldn't figure out any details of the plot but I did like the music.

  8. Can't begin to tell you how much I love that you like Tim McGraw. He's one of my favorites! His songs get me through many cleaning days. :) I saw him and Faith in concert many years ago, before I met Mike (who dislikes country music). I am always watching to see if he comes to concert anywhere near here... if he does we should go!
