6:14 p.m.

Today we skipped naps in favor of the pool, so the kids were in their PJs by 6. They stayed up for a few more minutes after dinner to play and I snuck in a brief and blurry photo shoot. Maybe this way we can all remember that they like to hug sometimes and not just tease/be bossy/make each other cry.

(both asleep by 6:30.)

  1. Ah, the pool - love how it makes kids tired enough to sleep deeply!!

  2. Your play room looks like so much fun! I love big brothers/little sisters, they're so much fun when they're hugging happily for those few moments!

How do you not keep all the toys from being pulled off all the shelves every morning?

  4. Susie, most nights I make them clean it up before bed...which is actually me cleaning at least half of it myself while directing them, "Theo, put the Legos away," "Ida, put the puzzles away," etc. Maybe one of these days I will post a picture of how the playroom looks during the day. Not very tidy but certainly lived in and loved.

Lately I have not been making them clean it up quite as often. I find that if we go several days without cleaning it, they're less likely to go in there...probably because there's nowhere to step.

  5. There is actually a school of thought that says you shouldn't clean up playrooms so much - that with all the stuff out in chaos, kids can re-combine certain activities in very creative ways that they wouldn't think of when stuff is all put away.

I was mostly a putter-awayer - in fact, I was - and still am - fairly compulsive on that score.

But all you kids are very creative, so it didn't stand in your way!!

  6. Ah, I am wishful for a 6:30 bedtime for all my kids. Especially the old ones that keep me from sleep!
