Bloggity bloggy, couch couch couch couch

Nothing to blog about except that I'm looking for new couches (and making up songs about it). Help me.

  1. This is the style I have in mind but I have yet to find one (make that 2--we ditched the bookshelves and armchair) that fits in my budget and fits my criteria. This one is in my budget but the upholstery is crap.

And so after days and days of looking I still have a feeling that my couch search has only just begun. Ol' Lillberger (my current couch) and I have yet to part ways. I have a hate-hate relationship with that couch.

  2. I remember as a young bride and mother thinking that life would be fine and dandy if I only had a great couch.

Took me years - as in 40 - to finally get it.

May your search prove more timely than mine!!

  3. 2 things I will be looking for when I'm fortunate enough to buy new couches, one deep enough for 2 people (Wes' reason for never wanting to snuggle) and one that I can lay my head on the end like a pillow. Good luck to you. I imagine this search is much like other ones that seem fun at first but then turn into, "get this over with" (i.e. wedding dress shopping).

  4. I meant to tell you that my couch guy says that he has shipped couches across the country. I'll get the details for you if you want. It might be cheaper than you think.
I do love my couch. I think it's pretty much perfect.

  5. Also the high arms on the couch you have pictured may drive you nuts after a while. Our last couch had them I and I cursed them daily at the end of our relationship. But other than that I think it has a great shape!

  6. One question I am wrestling with is: am I OK with completely Ikea-ifying my living room? (with the Karlstad...perhaps a loveseat and sleeper, or two couches, or something.) It is known, familiar, easy, cheap, comfortable, fills my needs.

But I think my answer is no most of the time. I get so tired of looking at my current Ikea setup. So I should probably steer clear of Ikea. Somehow, though, I can never stay away.

Another one I have looked at is this one. Maybe in a lighter fabric, maybe in a softer one.

By the way, sing my post title to the tune of "Beautiful Dreamer, wake unto meeee." That's how it goes in my head.

  7. we have high arms on our living room couches and have been fine with them.

and look in dumpsters - we found our couch on the side of PCH and it turned out to be some 50's designer couch and so we had it re-done and had a copy made so we could have a matched set.

  8. comfort is king, I think especially when you don't have a formal living room and a family room. I know how you feel about Ikea, but it is just so EASY.

  9. I am a fan of the Harmon - maybe because it looks like my couch - which is a recovered castoff from Bonny and Bruce - which was recovered castoff of theirs!

  10. I love the couch you linked to.

Bonny-Maybe we just had the wrong high arms? I will try to have an open mind on them next time we are couch shopping:)

  11. Good luck! I am still looking and it has been months.

Why can't Anthropologie just mark their couches down 80%? Just once! That would just make life so much easier :)

  12. oh, and I really like the couch you are thinking of! I love the height of the arm rests and back. Very cute!

  13. What do you guys think about 2 couches of different but similar colors and styles facing each other?

As opposed to 2 identical couches facing each other.

I'm thinking 2 low midcentury-looking couches: one midpriced (like the one I linked to in my comment above) in olive, one super cheap Karlstad in brown. Both fabrics are textured polyester, almost tweedy. Obviously the one couch is nicer than the other...but I don't think we can afford 2 of the one I like, and I don't want 2 Karlstads.

If no one responds then I will do another post...or maybe just send an e-mail.
