Here's an accurate representation of how we really spend our days. That's right, at Target. Well, more generally just running errands; lately my nesting has expanded to stockpiling. And for some reason, Theo has been in such good spirits that he actually seems to enjoy such outings. In fact, last Friday we went to Target, Babies'R'Us, and Costco all in one morning (this is after he went with me to my OB appointment) and he was the picture of perfection. Seriously.
Now it is a different week. Want to know what song was in my head this week?
"Pedialyte, Pedialyte, Pedialyte, Pedialyte," sung to the tune of the "Gimme your love" refrain in the song "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carey and Jay-Z. What, you're unfamiliar? Your loss...
Anyway, we have ushered October in with style. Starting Tuesday it was all diapers and washcloths and baths and fevers and Motrin and more diapers, and rashes: more specifically, the worst diaper rash I've ever seen. ("It was the worst accident...I ever seen.") Also there was force-feeding Pedialyte, and maybe some crying. From both of us. Also lots of hand-washing and laundry, oh and pretty much a complete lack of naps all around.
He's better now, I think, but I hate feeling housebound. I needed a bucket of water and a warm washcloth handy at all times.
Theo has never been sick in his almost-2-years-of-life, minus some barfing last Christmas, and he has also never had a diaper rash, so I am somewhat new at all of this. Consider me chastened. Maybe you can even consider me a real mom now...maybe. Check back in a few months and see if I've lost my mind yet.
I really don't consider this a "complainy" post, more like a documentation. I told Theo yesterday, "This is going to be a good day." And somehow that worked. I still changed my 54th diaper this week, but it was a good day.

But still, please bless that it's really over and that it will never...come...back.
I love the picture of Theo. That's the same happy look I have on my face when I'm at Target.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the sickies. All of you were remarkably well for most of your childhoods - so sickness always threw me for a loop.
ReplyDeleteNora and I have a weekly lunch date at Target. I'm pretty sure the lady at the snack bar knows our names. Theo's sickies sound very hard, for everyone. I'm dreading the day that Nora has more than a runny nose. Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteThat Nalgene looks HUGE next to Theo
ReplyDeleteWe must be sisters-Calvin has the same shirt!
ReplyDeleteI hope the rash is getting better.
I always enjoy wearing clothes from a store while I shop at that store.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I often get Theo a mini-pizza at the beginning of our trip so that he can munch on it throughout. Then usually by the time he is done, it's time to go. Voila! I got the idea from Phoebe, who gets Icees and popcorn for her kids...but curiously Theo does not seem to enjoy either Icees or popcorn.
Rash is better...because the diapers are better. PHEW! I'm serious, I went through a third of a Costco diaper box within 3 days! Okay, maybe a fourth...anyway it was one of the packages within the box.
This is pathetic, but I actually own Pee Wee's Big Adventure. I've never heard anyone else quote it before.
ReplyDeleteAlison
Wait a second. How many diapers did you change????
ReplyDeleteAlison, you don't want to get me started on quoting Pee-Wee's Big Adventure...one of my favorite movies!
ReplyDeleteSo, I was exaggerating on the diapers. It actually took about a little over a week to go through the package of diapers. But this week he averaged maybe 7-8 diapers a day, more on the 2 days he was really sick.
