I almost always put on a CD in Theo's room to accompany him off to dreamland. This is one of our favorites.
For some reason I can't picture Martha listening to music in the first place. I don't know why. So maybe they aren't handpicked. But regardless, I love the CD. Even if a few of the songs are a bit on the schmaltzy side, they are all very relaxing and peaceful.
At this point I'm not sure if I love the CD so much because the songs are actually good, or because the memories associated with them are so good. When I hear it I am immediately transported back to a year ago when Theo was still tiny and I rocked or nursed him to sleep in his room. It's nice now that all you really need to do to get him to sleep is toss him in his crib and turn out the light, but sometimes when we are both feeling cooperative I turn on this CD and hold him for a minute or two before putting him down. I love how music can enhance your memories.
I believe in going to sleep to music or words on tape. We went to the Hollywood Bowl lots for a number of years. And we'd often doze off during the concerts - especially the classical ones. I said something once to the effect that we weren't getting our money's worth. And Dad would say, "I can't think of a better bargain then falling asleep outside, under the stars, listening to beautiful music."

oh martha, is there anything you can't do?
ReplyDeleteAahh, Grannybabs, what a sweet moment.
Anna loves listening to music at bedtime but I find if I don't put it on repeat that she will wake up in the middle of the night and cry out, "my music!" Wherein I have to get up and push play like the good little servant I have become.
That sounds like a good one. I'll have to check it out.
