which would you choose?
The basic look needs longevity. I'd like this to last through more than one child, if you please.
Matt likes the brown/turquoise; I go back and forth but am leaning toward navy despite its boringness.
If you don't like either one, or if you have issues with Toys'R'Us or Wal-Mart, go ahead and don't say so, because these are the ONLY ones I've found that I like, and I'm buying it this week!
On looks alone, I like the turquoise/brown choice.
ReplyDeleteHowever, these are the trendy colors right now, so you may want the navy because of the classic color.
Good luck!
Brown and Turquoise for sure. More trendy, but so what? Everyone has a Navy one, and who wants to be like everyone else?
ReplyDeleteI too like the brown and turquoise - I suppose it could "go out of style" but you know, brown and turquoise was in style when I was young lass. So it would come around again.
ReplyDeleteAnd the navy one - is it combined with a car seat feature? It's way more elaborate than our navy pack and play - which is still in very good shape - although it has only been used by grandchildren, but Porter's been using it since April and now Baby Boy is and it still looks pristine. Anyway, you can't go wrong with navy.
And can't you buy all this stuff online? I thought we had entered the era when the world was our shopping cart or something!!
Personally I would choose navy. It is more classic, and less likely to look dated.
ReplyDeleteYes, you can buy all this stuff online at walmart.com or toysrus.com, or at the stores. In general I'm not yet to the point where I want to do all my shopping online, it's not like I have kids to drag around and I think shopping is kind of fun when it's just me.
ReplyDeleteThe thing on the blue one is a changing table that flips out of the way or comes off altogether. The cup holder is for diaper supplies although you could also put cups in it. Actually they both have changing tables. And the navy blue one has a shade thing which sort of looks like a carseat shade, but it's not, it's just for if you want to take the PnP outside in the sun.
All of the extras come off, including the mobile on the turquoise which in my opinion is a little silly since it doesn't even move.
Keep in mind also that I'm using this as the primary crib. Although now that we're getting to the baby-room-decorating phase I think I might change my mind. It's like when I got married and had no clue what kind of dishes/linens/etc. I really wanted until I actually started setting up my home.
ReplyDeleteI would go with the navy. Blue and brown is a bit trendy. It would dictate a specific color scheme in your baby room too. BUt they last forever. At least mine did. It went through 3 children, the last of which was a very LARGE child. ANd then went to Amy, who used it with a couple of kids too and it still looks perfect. But doing the whole crib thing is fun too. I finally got a crib with Hazel. But now that the newness is worn off, I kind of wish I'd just stuck with the pnp. The crib is much harder to take down to move, even from room to room. And the pnp has been used a lot, especially since our nursery was also the guest room. We had a lot of guests the first 6 months. So she spent a lot of time in that ppnp.
ReplyDeleteThis cracked me up from the description - "Because a large part of nurturing takes place in the home, this playard blends practical baby care in a decidedly convenient, dramatically different and unique way. "
ReplyDeletenice to add a little nurturing guilt there.
i like the navy.
i do have a navy one myself - and never regretted it. not something i can say about some of my other baby equipment.
I loke both. I have a navy (who doesn't?) I alos promptly lost all of the extra doodads they come with.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I love having a "real" crib. There is just something about seeing a crib set up in a bedroom. I have had mine for almost 6 years and I still love having it. And Calvin can't climb out of it, yet.
Good luck. Let the shopping begin!
I still like the brown and turquoise - but there are some persuasive arguments for the navy. They are not hugely expensive are they? (Mine was a gift.)
ReplyDeleteSo maybe with your next child you could have another one? I had 3 different portacribs with 6 kids - and one crib for Eliza, Hannah and Noah - Bonny, Harry and Phoebe never saw the inside of a crib.
Good point Bonny, I thought the same thing when I read the description. A lot of descriptions of baby items are pretty bogus (and throw in nurturing guilt as well). I must ask though, what baby items do you regret purchasing? Or do you just regret purchasing certain colors?
ReplyDeleteAlso good point Barb, they're not expensive, around $100 or less for the basic ones, so I could get another one later if I wanted and it wouldn't be a big deal. (At least, I hope someday I'll reach the point where $100 is not considered "a big deal"!)
The main thing I don't like about these that is true about a lot of baby gear is that most of the patterns/fabrics are pretty ugly and almost NOTHING cheap is plain. The plain stuff is always the most expensive. Plainness, not practicality, is really the main draw for me to get a regular crib. Maybe someday, or with our next kid. For now I'm thinking though that I might just go with navy because it will look fine wherever, although I must admit that the brown and turquoise would look rather fetching in the baby's newly painted apple-green room.
i'm a fan of the brown one.
ReplyDeleteI like the brown and turquoise one, but I may be biased, as I am currently wearing brown and turquoise.
ReplyDeleteI like the navy for most of the reasons already posted, but "won't show stains" is he big one.
ReplyDeleteEven though you think maybe you want a crib, go for the pnp for sure now. You'll need one anyway. And there are some very cool plain baby basic stuff out there. I wish I'd found these sites at the beginning of my pregnancy so I could save up. I bought a cheap walmart crib just because I couldn't find what I wanted.

I'm a minimalist at heart but having kids takes a certain amount of extra stuff. You can always resell on craigslist if you buy something and then realize you don't use it all that much. I recouped a lot doing that with mine.
Sometimes I am just way too practical and a bit scared of stepping out of the box. I love the turquoise & brown combo though and would choose it if I were choosing today.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think I would choose it if I knew I would be getting a crib at some point. I have enjoyed having a crib(s) for our nursery.
However, my "navy" porta crib(s) were the only tolerable color available when I was in the market for such merchandise. I only used the porta cribs in the beginning and then put them away and used them for trips etc. after that.
I guess you need to ask yourself. . . "Do I want to stray from the norm?"
Dawn votes for the brown and turquoise.
ReplyDeleteBeing able to use any color scheme that you want is a good reason to get a crib. (or a wood port-a-crib) (do they even make those any more?)
ReplyDeleteOne of Jeffs students made a cradle 10 years ago. It is the perfect size to fit in our room. 4 kids have slept in it until they were ready to pull themselves up and then they moved to the crib.
Made 'us' a cradle that is.
ReplyDeleteI use a PnP until they are kicked out of my room then they are in cribs, (except when we gave Drake a twin bed he decided that he prefered the master suite at 2:00 in the morning) I say go for which ever one you like best and don't worry about trendy or not. You won't be carrying it like a purse so it won't matter if it seems dated. By the way I love my sling that I got (peanut shell @googa.com) and I am also sporting a very cool red petunia picklebottom diaper bag ( it was a gift,I could not bring myself to spend more on a diaper bag than a stroller). I wish you luck on your PnP purchase!
ReplyDeleteSorry it is www.goo-ga.com.
