to make my annual "I'm sick" complaining post.
Actually it's really not that bad and it could be worse . . . but just take my advice, don't get a cold when you're approaching 9 months pregnant.
It's just a bad idea all around.
Any ideas to help me sleep at night, homeopaths? The lack of sleep is the major obstacle here, I believe. It's been about 5 days of total head congestion, sneezing, and coughing, and the humidifier/hot lemonade/lots of water type remedies are a little pokier than the syrupy cocktail that is NyQuil.
I am leery of most drugs anyway and so I haven't totally minded observing this cold progress unmedicated, but all I ask is please, please, please let the cold be gone before I go into labor. All I want is a little sleep, okay and also to be able to breathe through my nose. Nature, run your course . . . just, well, maybe step it up a notch.
How are you doing?
Have you tried tilting your bed - so that you are on a slant, not just your head.
ReplyDeleteCough drops often have antihistamine properties too.
And there's always Vick Vapo Rub!
we are doing great!
ReplyDeletebut i am nervous - no illnesses yet - so i'm sure it will land on christmas or the weekend we're at mom's.
but that will be okay - we've done that before.
as for your cold -
BENADRYL!
I cannot emphasize this enough.
At the end of Esme's gestation I was sick for a MONTH and a HORRIBLE cough accompanied it - I thought I was going to die.
My doctor said Benadryl is totally safe (although during the first trimester only if you are deathly ill).
It saved my life because it let me sleep through the night - or at least most of it.
I only had to use it for 2 or 3 nights. My body just needed sleep.
Good Luck!
PS - You will get better before labor the body usually knows what it needs to do.
With Brenden I got the flu only a few weeks before I had him. I was miserable!!! And losing weight when I should have been gaining! I too am leery of drugs with pregnancy - but something had to be done. Once I started I felt so much better. I now have a different view on drugs. If your doctor says it safe - take it and just feel better. Your baby will thank you.
ReplyDeleteI hate drugs as well but my doctor once told me, "if you can't breathe, then what makes you think your baby can?"
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Well I haven't asked my doctor about it, since Friday night and Saturday night were the worst and I didn't think it would last this long anyway. I bought some Benadryl last night after talking to Bonny but I thought, "I think I'm starting to feel better," so I didn't take it...of course around 1 a.m. I was rethinking things. And then again at 2 a.m., 3 a.m., etc. So maybe I'll try it tonight.
ReplyDeleteIt would probably be for the betterment of Matt's sleep as well. I'm surprised the poor guy has lasted this long sharing a bed with me with all of my tossing and turning.
At least it's not the stomach flu, which is what has been going on around here. Yuk!
