I'm Not the Kind to Kiss and Tell, But I've Been Seen with Farrah

Roll call!

I got this idea from Emily, whom I don’t know, who got it from somebody else, whom I also probably don’t know. At any rate, if you are reading this, even for the first time, I invite you to indicate your presence in some way.

“Here!” or “Present!” is fine, although submissions of clever witticisms, deep thoughts, spring-cleaning tips, and/or favorite TV theme songs are also accepted.

Feel free to chime in even if you’re days or weeks late. With fingers crossed I’m actually going to open my comments to non-Bloggers for a day or two. (Any shenanigans, though, and it’s back to strictly ID’d patrons.)

I was a little nervous to do this, you know in the same way you’re nervous to throw a big party in case no one shows up and it’s lame. But I'm sure that I'm in great company here. Witticisms, deep thoughts, and all.

Can’t wait to meet ya!

My contributions:

Spring cleaning tip: Maybe this isn't a "tip" but my favorite part of spring cleaning is throwing open the windows and blasting some sassy tunes whilst I dust/sweep/scrub. Cleaning soundtracks I enjoy include Radiohead's Hail to the Thief, ABBA's Gold, and Harry Connick's We Are in Love.

TV theme song: Thanks to my husband, I do have a strong appreciation for the theme to The Fall Guy. 'Cause he's the unknown stuntman who makes Eastwood look so fine.

  1. Here! No spring cleaning tips, but I've always been partial to the theme song for Greatest American Hero although I don't remember ever watching it. "Believe it or not, I'm walking on air, I never thought I could feel so free-ee-ee!"
Anyway, I visit your blog quite often, after finding the link from Hannah's blog after finding my brother's name on her blog once. And, you dated my little brother once upon a time.

  2. Welp, the comment moderation lasted about 2 seconds. Too complicated.

Hi Scott! I read your blog too, even though you never update it.

So megrat, I'm guessing you're Megrat H.? Perhaps I am way off. Either way, welcome to me blog and thanks for sayin' hi.

I've never seen GAH either, and the theme song conjures up Seinfeld to me. "Believe it or not, George isn't at home."

  3. Here! At times.

I hesitate to even post the entire set of "Fall Guy" lyrics without the music, but it really is a personal favorite of TV theme songs. If you ever get a chance to hear the actual song--don't miss it. You'll never forget the experience. So, although reading isn't the full experience of this masterpiece of manhood, here are the lyrics in their glory. My personal favorite line is "But the hardest thing I ever do, is watch my leadin' ladies, Kiss some other guy while I'm bandagin' my knee." Enjoy:

Well, I'm not the kind to kiss and tell,
But I've been seen with Farrah.
I'm never seen with anything less than a nine, so fine.

I've been on fire with Sally Field,
Gone fast with a girl named Bo,
But somehow they just don't end up as mine.

    It's a death defyin' life I lead,
    I take my chances.
I die for a livin' in the movies and TV.
But the hardest thing I ever do
    Is watch my leadin' ladies
Kiss some other guy while I'm bandagin' my knee.

I might fall from a tall building,
I might roll a brand new car.
'Cause I'm the unknown stuntman that made Redford such a star.

I never spend much time in school
    But I taught ladies plenty.
It's true I hire my body out for pay, Hey Hey.

I've gotten burned over Cheryl Tiegs,
    Blown up for Raquel Welch.
But when I end up in the hay it's only hay, Hey Hey.

I might jump an open drawbridge,
    Or Tarzan from a vine.
'Cause I'm the unknown stuntman that makes Eastwood look so fine.

  4. M.Keith, I googled and was triumphant. Lo the FG theme song in high-quality wav format at Tim's TV Showcase. It's actually quite fun to listen to the song while viewing the photo gallery.

I always thought your favorite line was "I never spent much time in school, but I taught ladies plenty."

  5. To the long-termest blogger I know (of)--
    Present!

I just discovered the greatest cleaning tip. . .pay someone else to do it. It's amazing.

And the theme song to Arthur ws the first to pop into my head: Every day when you're walking down the street, everybody that you meet has an original point of view. And I say hey. . . .

  6. Ah! Did my comment not post??

    I am present!

  7. Of course you know I'm here. I like to read Flylady now and then for tips. Check it out. But it's also embarrassing with all the purple puddles crap. I can't take too much of it. Lately I've been clorox bleach-penning grout like wildfire.

The Knight Rider theme is awesome, and would be awesome to bleach grout to.

  8. I'm present.
Do I have a theme song? Cleaning tip? I'm not feeling witty right now.

  9. I feel creepy doing this, but I also feel it necessary. I've read your blog a few times because I'm a friend of Hannah's. Anyway, my favorite TV theme song is the one from Growing Pains. I think most of its positive connotation comes from Leonardo DiCaprio's appearance on the show as Luke Brower.

  10. Veronica is not creepy. The interweb is how she was introduced to me at first... she read my blog without knowing me.

Here! I present to you the theme from Full House:

Whatever happened to predictability? The milkman, the paper boy, the evening TV? You miss your old familiar friends, waiting just around the bend.

Everywhere you look, everywhere you look (there's a heart, there's a heart), a hand to hold on to. etc, etc.

I'm having a hard time typing out the lyrics because I'm listening to other music right now. But it's kind of lame that I'm typing them out rather than looking them up and copying and pasting them.

  11. Hi Eliza! I don't have anything witty and my theme song has been taken. (Darn you, Hanner!) I just wanted to tell you I do check out your blog and I enjoy it. Miss you!

  12. Here, mostly...

Favorite TV show theme is from the Dukes of Hazzard.

Cleaning tip...if it can wait until later, do it later, especially if there is anything else you'd rather be doing. Cleaning will always be there, but life always moves on.

  13. HERE!

    Theme song:

The Electric Company (Hey you guuuuys!) most of you are too young to remember that show.

    Cleaning:

If you can't pay someone to do it, throw it away. You probably don't really need it.

HaHa - that will go over big with the environmentalists.

  14. Here.

Theme song...no idea, I'm not that creative. Any ideas?

Cleaning: You learn when you have kids (and are married to an even bigger one) that nothing ever stays clean. Good luck!

  15. I never watch TV these days and haven't for many years. I think the theme songs I could actually sing are Rawhide ("head 'um up, move 'em out, rawhide" - Frankie Lane sang it), "77 Sunset Strip," and maybe "The Brady Bunch." I might recognize others and be able to join in if someone else started it.

The thing I like about cleaning is standing there and admiring it. I used to yell at Harry for wearing the shirts I had ironed and lined up in his closet - "What did you iron them for if not for me to wear them?" he would say. And I would reply, "Well, we could just look at them for a few days first."

My cleaning tip is to do it in spurts - sustained effort is too draining.

I also subscribe to having a cleaning lady, throwing away, downsizing and clear surfaces - but I have a hard time with the latter.

  16. Cleaning Tip - You will be amazed at how much you clean and how fast it gets done when you know someone coming over will see it (i.e. friends, etc.)

TV Theme Song - Veronica Mars "We Used to Be Friends" by the Dandy Warhols. SO good.
"A long time ago we used to be friends... (music riff) Come on now sugar.. yeah.. bring it on bring it on yeah!!"

  17. First time lurker...I don't even remember how I got here. It's been a long lurking night. Carrie, Kacy, Emily? Who knows. I actually do know Carrie--it all started with her.

TV theme song has to be just the best banjo music ever from Arrested Development. Does that count? It makes me so giddy. (I've been watching the DVD's over and over--the songs stuck now).

  18. Ok, I'm back. TV theme song "Where you lead I will follow" from the Gilmore girls. That song sticks in my head. Cleaning tip-don't expect that having kids will help you get the work done. ( oh, the joys of teaching your kids to work!)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Emily - I would love to pay someone else to clean. I'm keeping that in mind for the day that I have money.

Kacy - I have checked out FlyLady in the past, thanks to my sister Bonny, and agree re: the purple puddles...ugh...but I love her shiny sink philosophy and I DO shine my sink often.

Karen - My kids will be picking up toilet brushes as soon as they learn to grasp.

Veronica - No creepy! Thanks for saying hi. Hannah's linked you on her blog before too and yea verily, I have visited.

Hanner - Shoo-be-doo-bop-bah-dah. (best part of the song)

Jennifer - I'm so happy that you're here and I actually had no idea you read this!

Betsy - I like your attitude. In fact, I embrace it. Maybe that's why my corner of the house is so dirty.

Bonny Brae - I like YOUR attitude too. I have too much junk.

Amy - Nothing ever stays clean at my house, either. Not even my clothes...especially not my clothes. I'm a bit of a klutz/spiller.

Grannybabs - I think I got that from you. When I organize my closet or desk or finish a day of cleaning, I could stand and look at it for hours. Literally.

Nickel - I have seen about 5 minutes of one Veronica Mars and it was interesting. I've heard good stuff about it, maybe I'll get it on DVD this summer.

Heidi - I don't know Carrie, or Emily really, but I do know Kacy. Sort of. She was my YW leader back in the DAY (ah, the mid-90s). I love Arrested Development. I love "it's been a long lurking night." I've had those.

Ladies (and gents)--thanks for showing your blogging faces. I feel so loved!

I need to stop with the blog metering because then I just wonder, "Who are you, Santa Fe Springs? San Diego? Reston? Washington? Everett? Unidentified Country? Boise? Draper? etc." Ah well.

That was a long comment but I wanted to respond to each and every person.

It's 11 a.m. and I just got up. Gah. I feel like a zombie. Time to start the day, I guess!

  20. I am gratified to know that a child of mine is interested in cleaning house. Out of duty? Okay. Obsession? All right, but the pathology is a bit creepy for a parent to consider (do I even remember the severity, if any, of your toilet training?) Out of love? The best answer.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hmmm, hpt, I don't remember toilet training either. But I don't think it has anything to do with my desire for a clean house.

Now that it's not "my" house anymore, it's a different story. But I still want to clean our "suite." It needs it. And I actually really love spring cleaning.

  22. I agree with the love aspect dad. Nothing says I love you like clean underwear, or a tasty meal, or a tidy house.

  23. I'm here, I'm here! I just haven't been for a while. (Darn that Norton!)
I was thinking Gilmore Girls, but Karen took that one. So I might have to think on it for a while.
Maybe I'll choose Sesame Street. When I listened to it he first time after I got "35 Years on the Street" I actually cried.
    Cleaning tip- Do it often!
