I'm Writing You to Catch You Up on Places I've Been

I had been saving that title for the eventual day that I would post my pics from Switzerland. (Doesn't that seem like forever ago?) However, I fear that I may never buckle down and post them, so might as well use the title now.

So...updates.

I was in Seattle for 2 days. It was nice--not too rainy. In fact, it was much less rainy than it's ever been when I've been there (except the time I went 2 Augusts ago and fell in love with the place. Summer in Seattle is breathtaking). I always get a little sad when I hop on the bus back to Sea-Tac--looking at the long rows of pines on the mountains, and all the pretty houses. It's such a nice town.

I dreaded the trip this time because so much was going on back home (family visiting; tons to do at work), but it was actually fun and I'm looking forward to my classes this quarter. Plus I flew back in to SLC last night, at the same time that many Big Hollywood Stars flew in for their beloved Sundance. I was a bit confused at first when I descended the escalator to the bag claim and found about 15 limo drivers standing there with signs (I mean come on, it's Utah). But then I saw a sign enscribed with "GYLLENHAAL MAGGIE" and put 2 and 2 together. I looked around furtively for any signs of Maggie. None. Oh well. I couldn't spell her name right anyway. Sorry, too lazy to Google.

My sore throat has still not gone away. Still! After 3 weeks! I went to the doctor 2 weeks ago and he said it would probably last a few weeks. So if it lasts another week I'm going back. It's so obnoxious. But it's not obnoxious enough to merit a sooner trip, you know what I mean? It really only hurts in the morning and at night. And all the cleaning I did last week didn't help (blast you, fumes), plus the dry air and the heater on every night.

I ran 7 miles today. Probably not so good for the sore throat. However, I feel good about it. Although it took me 10 minutes longer than it should have (note to self: do not go running at 2:30 p.m. with only the morning's bowl of Crispix in your stomach).

I also slept in until 9:38 a.m. today. Felt VERY good about that.

I finished Susanna's Quill yesterday. I liked it a lot! I highly recommend it. It's about the English-born writer Susanna Moodie (yeah, I'd never heard of her either) roughing it in mid-19th century Ontario, Canada, balancing a writing career and raising a family all while dealing with white-trash neighbors, the ague, etc. Smacked a little of Little House on the Prairie and Caddie Woodlawn. Big fan.

That's pretty much it. I need a haircut--I'm nearing the Jessica Rabbit stage with the bangs, and it's not such a good look for me. Maybe if I had animated hair and some elbow-length gloves that would soften it a bit. Actually now that I take a second glance, I look more like Jodie Foster in Freaky Friday (that's before she goes all 70s-glam). Hmm. Must make hair appointment SOON.

Oh yes, and just spreading the word--remember National Wear Red Day is February 3. It's coming up soon, so if you're not a big red-wearer, you can at least buy a red dress pin. I'm a huge fan of wearing red whenever possible, but I'm planning to get a pin too. Kudos to Babs for raising awareness about women and heart disease (to me, at least) every year.

BTW, I just noticed my recently updated sidebar is looking quite feministic, what with my music/book/movie choices as of late. Ah well. I enjoy being a girl.

Take care now, bye-bye then.

  1. Thanks for the heads up on the pins - I went online to order 10 of them to pass out to my friends near and dear - and the order came up as 1 - like I want to haul out my credit card for $2! So I will call them Monday a.m. for sure - maybe get 20 - and enlarge my circle of friends!
