I've Been So Lucky

I was trying to think of a Thanksgiving-ish title, and the lyrics to "Thank You for the Music" immediately invaded my brain and I couldn't get them out. So...sorry, ABBA-phobes. At least I left out the "I am the girl with golden hair" part, right? I don't know that I'm lucky in quite the ways that Agnetha was...Mother did not say I was a dancer before I could walk, for example. Also, my husband is not named Bjorn or Benni (not sure which of the Bs was hers. Or if she was even the golden-haired one, actually).

The point of this post is to say, Thanks, bloggers! Because I'm grateful for you. I'm following the example of my cousin Jeff, who posted a great Thanksgiving thanksgiving on his blog.

My thanksgiving:

I'm grateful for my handsome, quiet, funny husband.

I'm grateful for my loyal, goofy, loving family.

I'm grateful for my smart, short, charming nieces and nephews. (Not short for long, though--Ara is already up to my shoulder or something, for heaven's sake.)

I'm grateful for loyal and funny friends.

I'm grateful for my warm house, that's not really mine, but I'm grateful for it anyway, and its warmth.

I'm grateful that I'm not cooking dinner this Thanksgiving. Not that I ever have. But I don't need the stress this year, either! Someday, I promise, I will cook, and you're all invited.

I'm grateful that my quarter at school is almost up (3 weeks!) and that a week after that I get to see my beloved Bono again, at the Delta Center again. Coincidentally (or maybe NOT!), I'm listening to "Original of the Species" at the moment. "Sugar come on--show your soul!"

I'm grateful for Radiohead--in particular "Backdrifts," my favorite song of the moment.

I'm grateful that although my PC at work died again today, I had nothing saved on the hard drive this time.

I'm grateful that I've never touched a lawn mower. Can you believe that I've never even touched one? I really don't think I have! Shall I make this a lifelong goal, never to touch one? I hope this doesn't say anything about my work ethic. I have touched plenty of vacuums, if that helps.

I'm grateful for cell phones.

I'm grateful for forgiveness.

I'm grateful for delicious, delicious marshmallows.

I'm grateful for turkey-guacamole sandwiches. Oh man.

I'm grateful for 2 days off this week.

I'm grateful for...most things, really. At least when I'm in this "count your many blessings" mood. My mind is positively swimming with gratitude (well, with that and ABBA lyrics). I won't bore you with more. Go ahead, get back to stuffing your turkeys or whatever you people do.

Thanks for reading. Happy Thanksgiving.

  1. I. Love. Backdrifts.

Okay, so I'm grateful for other things on that list as well, but Backdrifts deserves attention...

  2. Eliza, you are so very funny, in a good way! I love to read your blog. Isn't it amazing how it just takes just a few years to not be a little cousin anymore? I'm thankful that I'm getting to know the grown up Eliza, since I mostly missed out on the young one!
