My kids’ teachers: HELLO! Gold medalists, all. I forever and ever love teachers. School teachers and church teachers.
My mom reads to and plays games with my kids on Zoom every week. Individually and as a group with other grandkids. She does sight words with Polly and reads novels with Theo, an otherwise reluctant reader.
My in-laws pick up the phone every time Polly FaceTimes them out of the blue (which is a lot).
My MVP helper might just be Miriam, who cleans our house every week with a mask on, while we hide in the basement and do virtual school. When she’s done upstairs, she patiently waits at the top of the stairs while we switch places, dirtying up what she just cleaned while she cleans what we just dirtied. It’s not ideal but it is saving my life right now.
My neighbor Kacy doesn’t babysit Polly anymore since the pandemic started (sad trombone), but throughout preschool, and really since Polly was a toddler, she babysat Polly 1-2 days/week. She and her husband continue to be very popular among all the kids in the neighborhood, giving them attention (outdoors, from a distance) and keeping up with their latest news. Also, Polly loves their dog like she’s her own.
My dear friend Janne who is a retired kindergarten teacher has come in clutch with Polly this year as well, giving her love and attention and helping sustain her interest in reading and learning. (Polly is one lucky kid!)
My therapist is also Theo’s therapist, and we take turns unloading on her every week.
We have had a (ahem) COMPLICATED construction project going on at our house since May. I’m pretty annoyed with the contractor and many of his workers, BUT the company’s quality assurance guy has been somewhat helpful in remediating the situation, and my realtor and my dad (both people I frequently go to for home-related advice) have been super helpful.
Ok it’s almost December, but I am actually going to do a couple more Thanksblogging posts because I missed a few during the month of November. Stay tuned! [jazz hands]
I love Zooming with your kids - may want to keep doing it when the pandemic eases - because I like the idea of weekly visual contact!!
