We got this car when Theo was a baby. It served us very well, until one day last week, when the otherwise solid and well-maintained engine completely wrecked itself, for reasons no mechanic has yet to figure out.
We had planned to get a bigger car later this year anyway, but I was dreading that a little, and it was sort of an abrupt end. We spent almost 7 years and 50,000 miles driving around in this guy. In that time our family grew from 3 people to 5--almost 6. I was planning to enjoy the challenge of fitting all 4 kids in it. (It has 3 rows and seats 7 people. But the people need to be pretty small.) When Matt cleaned it out at the dealership today--where we'd had it towed from our mechanic's shop last week--I asked him to send me a photo, since I hadn't said a proper goodbye.
So...goodbye, Highlander. It could have been a proper goodbye if you hadn't gone all crazy on me all of a sudden. Thanks for the memories; and enjoy your new life with a different engine and a different family.

Will be excited to see your new car - and to ride in it too. But it's too bad the ending was so abrupt! The Volvo - the white one - kind of died that way.
ReplyDeleteI am always emotional about my cars. I think it's because I spend 1/3 of my life in it and we become very....close.
ReplyDeleteExcited to see what you get next - minivan?
I get emotional about cars too! I cried for days when I had to trade in my Element. Best car I'll ever have
