Shake it to the right, if you know that you feel fine

I ran 10 miles this morning, farther than I've gone since before I had kids. This year I decided in January to start running most days of the week, just a mile at a time, and only to take one or two days off from running each week. Gradually I added miles, got off the treadmill and onto the road, and discovered so many beautiful spots in my neighborhood. Some were not technically new to me, but I had forgotten about them. Like a trail near my house that borders a community garden. Or an unexpected side road. Virginia = for lovers.

I also started doing vinyasa yoga this year, and I love the strength aspect of it, but my favorite thing has been the teacher's instructions to let the past and the future go and completely stay in the moment while doing the poses, focusing on every body part and what it's doing. Something clicked and I finally figured out how to do that while I run. Sometimes I think about random things in my life but for the most part I just don't really think much at all. All the parts of my body move the way they are supposed to and I feel like I am running in a bubble where nothing else exists. Except maybe the Spice Girls blaring in my ears. (Feel free to judge)

Unfortunately this morning I had some hip pain for the first time which I need to look into. I'm also not very fast compared to more serious runners. But other than that, I have done OK.

In general I think too much. I haven't completely beaten back my enemies of depression and anxiety. While I run I can let go of all that. I am so thankful for a body that can take me where I need to go.

Good for you! 10 miles is far and takes determination to keep at running, to make it that distance.

  4. You know I love a post that starts out with some GIRL POWER!

Also, yoga is awesome. It has really helped me to focus more on the present as well.
