March 1, 2002I have 2 papers due today at 2:00. I have not yet begun to write said papers. They’re both for German, they’re both about The Magic Flute, and one is supposed to be in English, the other in German. Glorious. When will I do this? I have no idea. I work until 11, then I have my piano lesson, then I have English at 1. I would skip English, but I already skipped it this week. I swear I’m going to fail that horrid class.
While we’re on the subject, my term paper for Teachings of the Living Prophets is due on Tuesday. Have I written it? No. Have I done research? No. Do I even have a topic? Definitely not. Also, my term project for communications is due on Monday. Have I started that? Nope. Do I even know what the project is? Nope. Have I met with my group? Not in about a month. See a pattern? Then there’s my English project and midterm, which I definitely don’t want to think about, because I’m going to fail them both. I don’t think I can keep up with all this. I already had 2 major papers due earlier this week in world civ and communications, which I barely wrote on time. Argh.
Let’s see, what else? I went out with Sam last night. It was weird. I mean very weird, as in super awkward. As Hester pointed out (I tell Hester everything, if you couldn’t tell), if you make out once and then don’t immediately make out again within the next few days, it’s going to be weird. And it was. Also, we had another DTR in which I think he was trying to dump me, which was funny, because we weren’t ever together. Also, I thought we had already covered everything in the DTR Sunday night. Basically it was the same conversation over again, only this time he was the one saying we should date other people. I don’t even want to continue going into this. It was all too surreal. After he dropped me off I told Hester, “I can’t believe I just had the most typical BYU relationship ever.”
COLLEGE WAS AWKWARD...glad those days are over. Glad that somehow I graduated. And yet, life was also pretty fun then.
And yet, it's so much more fun now. More fun, fewer DTRs. Make that no DTRs. Heaven knows Matt and I had enough of those in college. Enough DTRs and enough midnight runs to Maverik for frozen yogurt.
Maverik! OK, so maybe I do kind of miss college a little bit, sometimes. Or do I just miss the midnight frozen yogurt? And maybe the sleeping in until 3 p.m.
Is DTR "define the relationship?"
ReplyDeleteThe college years were great years for me - but I wouldn't want to relive them!! It's good to move on!
I'm stressed just reading the list of things you had to do.
ReplyDeleteI always think about how much I miss college but I really don't miss that the school work never ended.
Also, funny story about Sam.
ugh, i sometimes miss college, but i don't miss being single.
ReplyDeleteReading that was awesome. I lived through you for a few moments since I never had any kind of typical BYU experience. Do you know I never got asked out once at BYU? I wondered if I smelled or something else bad because everyone was like, "BYU, what a meat market!" And then I got there and nothing. Wait, I did get asked out one time and it was weird. The guy pretty much wanted to marry me before the date even began. And, to make this comment even longer, I was one of those students who always had my papers done way early then took them to writing labs and signed up for tutoring at math labs, and you know what, I bet you still got better grades then me.
ReplyDeleteI loved college--my favorite part was going to one class for one hour on a Tuesday and thinking "Wow, that was my work for the day!" Then spending the rest of the time hanging out and accomplishing nothing.
ReplyDeleteI think college should start in your mid-twenties because I'd actually take all my classes and coursework seriously and probably totally enjoy doing it. I thought some of the stuff was interesting then, but mainly I wanted to have fun. I remember a professor complaining about students not caring and being like, oh, sorry!
ahhhh (that's a sigh, not a yell) Let me just tell you that Dave has been watching old Buffy's lately and I sooo have you on the brain. Also, your post makes me miss Marin 12. (One of the) best things about you is that you somehow pulled everything off! Somehow. aAnd I remember how you got asked out 2 nights every weekend and Hester and I were like, "what the flip?" I donno if you were weird or we were, or just all of us were. Like Hannah said, I do miss college but not being single. btw I'm going back to school on monday to work towards a Masters in Speech Language Pathology! Love ya
ReplyDeleteIf you asked any of my college friends they would tell you the one thing they remember about me is that I was ALWAYS TIRED and would sleep until 3 pm if I could. You are not the only one.
ReplyDeleteThese comments all made me LOL...I loved Susie's comment. So true. "Oh, sorry!" College was much more fun than work for me, and it showed in my grades. The best three things I got out of college were that I met my husband, I made a few wonderful and lasting friendships, and I figured out what I wanted to do for a career. I loved my job at the library and so became a librarian.
ReplyDeleteTalai, when I read these comments I said to Matt, I have a hard time believing Talai only got asked out on one date at BYU!! But then he pointed out that you may have lived at home and that does change things. I only got asked out once in a class and that was also quite strange.
And, I went on lots of first dates at BYU but rarely seconds or thirds. My own awkwardness contributed to that. And I only ever kissed 3 guys in college and in my life...which I'm happy about.
I got average grades. Good enough to graduate, I guess! It would have helped if I had gone more Talai's route and actually planned ahead with papers and stuff, and gone to office hours to get help with things instead of failing classes and re-taking them later (embarrassing, something I did more than once).
Sarah, I'm sorry I haven't e-mailed you in a while. I'm SO EXCITED for you to start your master's on Monday! Hooray!!
I miss Maverick.
ReplyDeleteAnd being able to sleep.
And having an excuse to be irresponsible because aren't most of the people around you lacking responsibility?
so andreas and I just moved into a new apartment and the landlord has a thing for mirrors (so many mirrors). Anyways just last week I shared the eliza/sam "we look so good together" moment with andreas. He got a kick out of it.
ReplyDeleteI liked college but at the same time didn't love the stress or the fact that I never got asked out either. Andreas thinks its probably because I was too mean and sarcastic and scary. what does he know anyways.
