A few nights ago Matt and I watched My Kid Could Paint That (2007) on Netflix On Demand.
For lack of a better word, as I watched the film I felt...awkward. I felt sad for the family. Some of my favorite art is by kids I know--usually funny little drawings done in pencil or marker. I wonder what my own kids might come up with if presented with giant canvases, tubes of thick paint, large brushes and spatulas. Once they're capable of keeping the paintbrush on the canvas, that is.
Have you seen it? What did you think? Could a four-year-old paint something worth thousands and thousands of dollars? Would you even want to find out?

Side note: Tune in tomorrow for the first installment of the New and Improved: Getting to Know You series!
I saw that last year and I felt the same way. The whole time I had no idea who was telling the truth. I thought that she could draw it but I wondered if maybe her family "helped" with some of the finishing touches. I don't know...but the documentary made me feel mostly uncomfortable.
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with this - but it seems a little bogus.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, it made me feel awkward and sad for the family. Especially towards the end when you can tell how torn apart the parents are.
ReplyDeleteI have Netflix.
ReplyDeleteWhat is Netflix on Demand?
Maybe it's called something else, I don't remember but if so it's similar. But anyway it means you can go to the Netflix site and can watch movies on your computer. If you have a special attachment thingie then it will send the movies to your TV. Our TV is in our computer so it works out well for us.
ReplyDeleteThe movies are sometimes kind of random. Mostly older movies, lots of documentaries, a few new releases and a few TV shows. I'm not sure if we pay extra for it. At any rate I recommend it!
It's called "Watch Instantly." I think. It's pretty much the best feature of Netflix, especially when no one is coming into your office and you've done all of your work for the day...
ReplyDeleteYou're right. Because I have a normal queue and then there's my "instant queue."
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of Comcast On Demand I think. Or some other On Demand...
I saw the preview for that movie and it was intriguing.
ReplyDeleteDavid has mentioned "watch instantly". I guess we should try it!
Ohhhh yes. I like it, it is the way of the future.
ReplyDeleteI think we are going to have to rent this.
ReplyDeleteor watch it through that netflix thing, rather. watch it, in any case. i'll be the judge of the authenticity of this art!
