My mother

Today we bid farewell to Granny Babs...

I know we'll be fine without her but it sure was nice having her around. Theo will miss their daily (or twice daily) trips to the park; Ida will miss being rocked and held each evening; and I will miss the company, conversation, clean house, magically disappearing laundry piles, hot meals, admonitions to "take it easy," and, best of all, daily (or twice daily) naps.

Hooray for having a great mother. I am so blessed. Thanks, Mom!! See you in about 6 weeks!

  1. You are so kind - it's a real treat for me to go and be with my kids when a new baby is born!!

A miss you already!! (I'd much rather do laundry, fix meals, rock a baby and take Theo to the park than go back to the classroom.)

However, usually I just go back, and it seems like I've never been away and I adjust!!

    But thanks for the memories!!

  2. I am laughing at that last picture because it looks like we posed it...rest assured that we didn't. I asked Matt to take a picture of us and before we did the posed one, he snuck one of us hugging.

    Just to clarify.

  3. Your mom is great! I could spend days just talking to her and listening to what she has to say.

  4. Oh boy, I remember having to say bye to my mom. I thought my heart would break in half. I was so sad to see her go and I wondered if I could really do it on my own. Moms are so wonderful. They never stop caring for us.

  5. it was so important to me to have mom come and stay after each of my children - and every time she left i cried.

and it's funny because before ara was born i thought, "oh it's fine if mom doesn't come, i've been around plenty of babies" - how wrong i was. not just for the physical and emotional support she brought, but also because i feel it is so important to have that time to revisit traditions and stories that are important to our family.
