Weekend update
Sorry I haven't really blogged in a while, save the occasional photo of my nieces and complaint about whistlers. Here's what's happened in the past week or so...
-Went to Seattle for a couple of days as part of my attempt to get a master's degree in library and information science from the University of Washington (due to an appalling lack of LIS schools in the great state of Utah). That was an explanation for some of you who have expressed confusion about my frequent Seattle-going.
-Contracted food poisoning my first day there, vomited more than I care to admit (although to give you the full picture, I stayed in a B&B with a common bathroom for the whole floor. Nothing like barfing in a stall!), spent the remainder of my time in Seattle lying in bed, physically unable to walk, and wanting to die. I've had food poisoning once before (curse you, Cannon Center salad bar ranch dressing), but it was more of a barf-once-and-we're-over-it. This was more of a "What if I die and nobody finds out for days?", actually prompting me in my delirium to remove the "Do Not Disturb" sign on my hotel door, so that in the event of my death at least Housekeeping would find out the following morning. Not kidding.
-The death feelings only lasted about a day, and I did make it through my flight back to SLC without resorting to the barf bag, but I continued to snack only on bread, bananas and applesauce for about 4 days after that. I'm telling you, food poisoning is brutal. Do not attempt to eat refrigerated and reheated sesame seed chicken & garlic chow mein bought from a convenience store. It will seriously cramp your style.
-So, that was a round-trip ticket and hotel stay basically wasted, but whatever, my professors were really cool about my missing classes. Now I have a quarter of 11 credits to look forward to, while I continue to work full time. It's actually not bad--I'm taking a cataloguing class, a reference services class, and a class I'm still not sure why is required, "Instruction Strategies for Information Professionals." So learning how to teach people to use the library, I guess. Basically. I'm doing okay so far, but I'm completely lost in the cataloguing class. Ask me about metadata or extensible markup language. No clue.
-My parents, my brother Noah, and my sister Hannah came to visit last weekend. It was quite fun! Parents and Noah live in California, so I don't see them much. Also, for my birthday my parents gave me a beautiful, wonderful "Granny apple green" spring coat. The kind of coat that you continue to wear when you get home from work at night, because you just can't bear to take it off. The kind of coat that you're sure everyone's envious of (either that or they're thinking, "Hm, that's green, all right").
-Saw "Fever Pitch" last night. It was so cute and funny and I love Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon now, and their clothes (well, their characters' clothes). Truly. I fully endorse it. There were a few questionable jokes but not nearly as bad as you might expect from the Farrelly brothers (makers of "Dumb & Dumber," "Kingpin," and "There's Something about Mary"). Go see it if you like the Red Sox and/or romantic comedies.
-And now...I'm going to pick up Matt from the blue & white game. Yes, that's right, we're in Provo. And we're going to hang out with Hannah and Hester tonight. And I've been eating real food for 3 days now. And I'm wearing my apple green coat. And I'm done with my homework, at least for today. How sweet it is.
I have never had food poisoning, but I have had plenty of experience with being sick to my stomach - and it truly is no fun - dying sounds good even! My mom, who got nauseated sick with all 12 of her pregnancies used to say that you forget the pain of labor very quickly - but never the nausea!!
ReplyDeleteWell, you simply must post a picture of your apple coat. Did your mother pick it out? And, by the way, I too have had food poisoning and it's no good.
ReplyDeleteI also really liked Fever Pitch, but then again, I have always had a crush on Jimmy Fallon. I enjoyed the wardrobe as well, especially Jimmy's. My roommate and I had quite a lengthy discussion about his wardrobe and our opinions of it actually.
ReplyDeleteI think my enjoyment of Drew's and Jimmy's respective wardrobes was probably about equal. They both just looked so cute in every scene (except Drew's barfing scene and, well, the black A-line wig wasn't doing it for me either). Jimmy's style is my fave guy style--very Boston schoolteacher-ish.
ReplyDeleteSo yeah, I was a big fan of the film. Jimmy Fallon is SO cute and like Katie said, the relationship was very believable. And we can always do with more Jimmy Stewart impersonations. And I'll admit, I even enjoyed some of the cheap laughs from the anesthesiologist guy.
OK I'll stop talking about this movie now. Thanks for the commiseration on the nausea thing. I think nausea is possibly the worst physical state ever. Except for maybe the intense pain that comes from breaking a bone, getting teeth knocked out, or having a child. I've never had any of those, though, so for me, nausea is the worst.
this is a test
